Lexington, S.C. – August 28, 2007 – District 87 Representative Nikki Haley announced today that Erica Deahl of Lexington, S.C. and Amberjade Taylor of Gilbert, S.C., have been named recipients of the 2007 Nikki Haley Scholarship Awards.
Miss Deahl, the daughter of Eric and Louise Deahl of Lexington, is a graduate of Lexington High School. She will be attending Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., this fall, where she will major in math and minor in physics.
Miss Taylor, the daughter of Graham and Sally Taylor of Gilbert, is also a graduate of Lexington High School. She will be attending the College of Charleston this fall, where she will major in French.
“These young women and their parents deserve tremendous credit for the years of hard work and sacrifice that went into winning these awards,” Rep. Haley said. “It’s an honor for me to recognize their accomplishments and to thank them on behalf of our community. I’d also like to thank all the students, parents and teachers here in our district whose ongoing commitment to excellence ensures that Lexington’s public schools remain the very best in our state.”
Created in 2005 by the S.C. Republican Women’s Caucus to honor Rep. Haley’s “hard work and determination on behalf of the people of South Carolina,” two Nikki Haley scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded annually to deserving District 87 high school students.
