COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 24, 2007) — South Carolina Realtors (SCR) is proud to award Representative Nikki Haley of House District 87 in Lexington with the 2007 W. Mack Chamblee Quality of Life Award. The award is given each year to the legislator who demonstrates leadership in promoting and protecting quality of life in South Carolina. SCR recognizes Representative Haley’s outstanding commitment to service in the South Carolina House of Representatives as a thoughtful, principled and dedicated leader.
“Nikki Haley is one of South Carolina’s hardest-working, most effective advocates for positive, pro-business change,” said Nick Kremydas, SCR CEO. “Her work on a wide range of critical economic development issues over the last few years has materially improved our state’s competitive strength as well as the quality of life for all of our citizens.”
Through her work on the House Committee on Labor Commerce and Industry, Representative Haley has been involved in many issues important to Realtors and to improving quality of life for all South Carolinians. She played a pivotal role in shepherding property insurance reform legislation through the House and was a key player in putting together the compromise on workers’ compensation reform. These issues are extremely important to South Carolina’s economy and ability to attract new jobs. Her devotion to ensuring economic vitality, providing housing opportunities, and building better communities has made Representative Haley a champion for improving the quality of life in South Carolina.
“Our state’s Realtors have consistently pushed for job-creating, market-based reforms to the way South Carolina does business,” Rep. Haley said. “We share a commitment to competitiveness that will go a long way toward making life better for the hundreds of thousands of families and businesses who call South Carolina home. We’re fortunate to have such a dynamic partner for prosperity in our state, and I look forward to stepping up my efforts to advance pro-business reforms that will help enhance our prosperity.”
