Representative Nikki Haley was recently honored by the Capital City Republican Women with the Martha Edens Loyal Service Award, recognizing her many years of service to the Republican Party.
“I greatly appreciate everything the Capital City Republican Women have done for our state and our Party, and to be recognized by them in this way is truly an honor,” Rep. Haley said. “At its best, our Party is representative of the ideals of freedom that were at the core of our nation’s founding. A Republican Party that is true to itself, that embraces the idea that our people, not our government, are the strength of America, is one I’m proud to be a part of.”
“We have drifted from that some in recent years, falling away from a commitment to the conservative principles that made the GOP such a powerful force for good in years past,” Haley continued. “It is my hope – and my strong belief – that we can and will again become a Party of accountability and true fiscal responsibility, a Party that fights tooth and nail to create opportunity for its citizens but does not take tax dollars from one to bail out another.”
Martha Edens has been a staple in the Republican Party since the early 1950’s. She has held numerous leadership positions within the Party, serving as National Committeewomen and Chairman of the Richland County Republican Party. The Capital City Republican Women established an award in her honor in recognition of her dedication and years of service to the Republican Party.
The award in her name is given to an individual who has exhibited similar loyalty and commitment to the Republican Party and the principles that define it.
