Nikki joined State GOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd, Young Republican chairwoman Britton Pruett, and 99-year-old GOP activist Grace Stevens in Myrtle Beach to celebrate three generations of Republican women. The Myrtle Beach Sun News wrote up the event here:
“The Myrtle Beach Republican Women’s Club held a luncheon Tuesday to honor several generations of women in Republican politics, including S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley, who is campaigning for a Republican bid for governor in 2010.
Karen Floyd, chairwoman of the S.C. Republican Party, Britton Pruett, chairwoman of the S.C. Federation of Young Republicans, and Grace Stevens, a 99-year-old member of the Myrtle Beach Republican Women’s Club, also spoke and were honored, but Haley, who announced her bid for governor two months ago, was the big draw. She spoke about the need for improvement in the education system and asked the women to stay involved on the frontline of politics and behind the scenes. ‘Everything that we are facing all has to do with spending,’ Haley said. ‘The government has forgotten the value of a dollar and how to stretch that dollar.’
Politico, a Washington insider newspaper that covers politics on a national scale, named Haley one of 50 Republican politicians to watch in a recent edition.
The 37-year-old Lexington County legislator said she wants to take action as a fiscal conservative and will push to have legislators’ check registries be available online and will lead a campaign to have all votes in the state legislature recorded.
‘If they know you can see it, they’re going to behave with it,’ she said.” …
