Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Policy Council’s Palmetto Leadership Award was given to Representative Nikki Haley and former Department of Revenue Director Burnie Maybank at the organization’s 20th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, September 18th. The Palmetto Leadership Award is given to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership in promoting the principles of limited government and free enterprise. Past recipients include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, SC Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell and former SC House Speaker and current U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Wilkins.
“Representative Haley has already emerged as a courageous and principled leader in the General Assembly. She is a respected businesswoman who brings a sensible and thoughtful approach to public policy.
